Thank the Gravitron—a spinning amusement park ride that pins nauseated riders against the wall—for Lindsey Kraft’s acting career. Had the former high school tennis star not hurt her back on the ride, she might be smashing aces at Wimbledon instead of appearing in TV shows such as Without a Trace, Law & Order, and The Sopranos, or flicks like Epic Movie and this month’s The Accidental Husband. “I’m an athlete,” she says, “but, deep down, I think I always wanted to be an actress.”

In the romantic comedy The Accidental Husband, in which Lindsey stars alongside Uma Thurman and Colin Firth, she plays a vixen who throws a wrench into Uma’s plan for happiness. “I do end up being her bridesmaid at the end,” Lindsey explains, apparently unafraid of dropping spoilers. Next comes See You in September, in which she plays a girl with OCD who’s convinced her man is cheating on her. To get the part, she taped herself acting out a scene where her character drinks herself into oblivion. “I was just being a drunk, crazy person licking this martini glass. I made some pretty strong character choices,” she giggles. Producers liked the performance so much they incorporated it into the movie.

It wasn’t the first time the Queens, New York native (she relocated to L.A. two years ago) has pretended to be under the influence for the cameras. In a memorable moment on The Sopranos, Lindsey played Nadia, a girl A.J. meets at the nightclub Marquee who’s later seen snorting cocaine, or, in this case, powdered baby milk. “Oh, my God,” she recalls, groaning, “I had a postnasal drip that tasted like candy for days!”
