  • Eat the Mail: Burger King Loaded Steakhouse Burger

    bk_steakhouse_2.jpg

It's exciting when a new piece of tech shows up in the mailman's sack, but sometimes a new food item can be just as interesting. This Loaded Steakhours Burger didn't exactly come in the "mail," but it was delivered directly to me by the BK folks, so I think it's only fair to give it a review. It's their new permanent menu item and it involves a steak burger "topped with two slices of melted American cheese, A.1. Thick & Hearty sauce, crispy smoked bacon, crispy onions and [get ready for the WTF] a loaded baked potato topping all on a premium bakery bun." Yes, there are potatoes on the burger. Take the link for full review of the deliciousness and more pictures that will make your lunch seem crappier than it already is.

  • CES After Dark: Wednesday Is Some Work, Some Play

    after_dark_wed_1.jpg

    Free meal count: 11

At the end of Day 3, my eyes are starting to get droopy and my legs feel like they've gotten about three inches shorter from all the pavement pounding they've been doing. But a steady supply of free shrimp and drinks have kept me sharp as a tack. I got lucky enough to make it into the exclusive Sony Online Entertainment party they threw at the Hard Rock to celebrate their new MMORPG (don't pretend you don't know what that means) Pirates of the Burning Sea. There was a poker tourney going on in which I didn't have the motivation to play, but I did enjoy the "pirate wenches" that were walking around. The milk shake bar and bouquets of desserts didn't hurt either.

The best part of the evening, though, was when a sloppy-looking game writer came running up to one of the PR people putting on the event and literally screamed, "Oh my God, it's pirate wenches! I knew there would be pirate wenches!" Then he got distracted by some piece of Star Wars swag another writer had from the announcement that Darth Vader and Yoda are going to be playable characters in the next Soul Calibur game. That guy seriously must have wandered out of the book of stereotypical game bloggers.

  • CES After Dark: Fuck the Monster Cable Party

    lunch_post_21.jpg

The Monster Cable party at CES is a lot like New Year's Eve in Times Square: People that have never been think it looks great, but anyone who has ever been would rather pry off their fingernails with a pair of pliers than do it again. Every year, Monster takes some of that loot it makes selling ridiculously expensive wire and hires a big-name act to play for them. This year it was Mary J. Blige. It sounds like a good deal: An A-list musical act for zero dollars. But then they make you sit through a bunch of ultra-silly pep rallying beforehand. It's the worst, so I opted to work on increasing my free dinner count, which is currently at 7, by the way...

  • CES Free Press Lunch Is Blog Fuel, Gross

    lunch_day1.jpg

It has nothing to do with gadgets, but I thought you might like another glance at how we, the hardworking keyboard jockeys, live here at CES. Pictured above is the rice, beans, salad, and cake concoction that the press was treated to this afternoon. I didn't think cake and beans went so well together, but in the end it was just more proof that beans go with everything. Anyways, it still goes in my tally of free meals received for the week. I'm hoping to get at least 10.

    Free meal count: 1
